Privacy Policy

Prayer Stop has no account, no analytics and no advertising SDK. It does not collect personal data about you, and there is no server of ours for it to be sent to.
The short version. Your location is used on your iPhone to work out prayer times and the qibla, and it never leaves the device. Your settings stay on your iPhone. The apps you choose to pause are handled by Apple's Screen Time and stay hidden even from us. The only thing that leaves your phone is a request for Qur'an text when you open a surah.

This is the controller for the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
What the app does with your information
Location
If you allow it, Prayer Stop reads your device location to work out prayer times and the direction of the Kaaba. Your coordinates are matched against a list of cities that ships inside the app — there is no lookup against any online service, and your coordinates are never transmitted, stored on a server, or shared. You can decline the permission and pick a city by hand instead; the app is fully usable that way.
Your settings
Your chosen city, calculation method, pause length, theme and toggles are stored in the app's own storage on your iPhone. They are not synced to us. They are removed when you delete the app.
The apps you choose to pause
Choosing which apps are held back during a prayer uses Apple's Screen Time (the Family Controls framework). Apple's own picker records your selection as opaque tokens which iOS keeps on your device. Prayer Stop cannot read those tokens and never learns which apps you picked — it only ever sees how many. Nothing about your app usage is collected or transmitted.
Notifications
Prayer alerts are scheduled locally on your iPhone from times computed on the device. There is no push server and no device token is sent anywhere.
Qur'an text
When you open a surah, the text is requested from alquran.cloud, a third-party Qur'an API. As with any web request, your IP address and the surah requested are visible to that provider. Prayer Stop sends nothing else — no identifier, no location, no account. Surahs you have already opened are kept on your device and can be read offline without a further request. This is the only outbound request the app makes.
Links to partners
The Recommendations page links to a small number of businesses and charitable causes. Tapping one opens it in your browser. Those sites are operated by other people under their own privacy policies, and some links are sponsored or affiliate partnerships. Prayer Stop passes no information about you to them.
What is not collected
- No account, sign-in, name or email address.
- No analytics, crash reporting or usage tracking of any kind.
- No advertising identifiers, and no tracking across apps or websites.
- No contacts, photos, calendars, health data or microphone access.
- Nothing is sold or shared with data brokers. There is nothing to sell.
Legal bases for processing (GDPR Article 6)
Where the GDPR applies, processing your location on your device to show prayer times and the qibla rests on your consent (Article 6(1)(a)), given through the iOS location permission and withdrawable at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services. The request for Qur'an text rests on our legitimate interest in providing the feature you asked for (Article 6(1)(f)).
How long anything is kept
Everything the app stores lives on your iPhone for as long as the app is installed. Deleting Prayer Stop removes it. We hold no copy, so there is nothing for us to retain or delete on our side.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict and port your personal data, and to object to processing. Because Prayer Stop holds no personal data about you on any server, there is in practice nothing for us to produce or erase — but you are welcome to write to info@prayerstopapp.com and we will answer.
You may also complain to a supervisory authority. For this controller that is the Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit Nordrhein-Westfalen, Postfach 20 04 44, 40102 Düsseldorf.
Children
Prayer Stop is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone. It contains no advertising and no user-to-user communication.
International transfers
We transfer nothing. The Qur'an API you reach when opening a surah is operated by a third party and may be hosted outside the EU; that request carries your IP address and nothing more.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and material changes will be noted on this page.
