Common questions

The pause did not hold back my apps

Three things have to be true. In Prayer Stop, open Settings and check that Prayer pause and Hold back apps are both on. Then tap Choose next to Apps to pause and pick at least one app — until you do, there is nothing for the pause to hold back. The line under Hold back apps tells you what is actually armed, for example 13 apps · 20 windows armed. If it says anything else, it is telling you what is missing.

Holding back apps needs iOS 16 or later and Screen Time permission. If you declined that prompt, you can grant it again in iOS Settings › Screen Time.

The prayer times look wrong

Check the city shown at the top right of the app, then try a different calculation method under Settings — Muslim World League, ISNA and Egyptian differ most at Fajr and Isha. If your mosque follows a local convention, use whichever method matches it.

The qibla arrow is unsteady

Move away from metal, magnets and speakers, and take the phone out of a case with a magnetic closure. Waving the phone in a figure of eight recalibrates the compass.

I am not getting prayer alerts

Check that Adhan alerts is on in Prayer Stop, and that notifications are allowed in iOS Settings › Notifications › Prayer Stop. The line under the toggle shows how many alerts are armed and when the next one is due.

How do I stop a pause early?

On the shield screen, tap I've prayed. Inside the app, hold the I've prayed button for three seconds — the hold is there so a pause is not dismissed by accident.

Does Prayer Stop know which apps I chose?

No. iOS hands the app an opaque token for each choice and keeps the details to itself. Prayer Stop only ever sees how many you picked. See the privacy policy.
